Elkhorn Homes for Sale & Elkhorn Real Estate
Founded in 1865, Elkhorn, Nebraska was recently annexed by Omaha, despite efforts by the city to prevent this measure. With a population of around 8,000, Elkhorn offers attractive tree-lined streets, quiet neighborhoods, and an outstanding public school system. Elkhorn’s convenient location offers residents short commutes and easy proximity to the employment and shopping opportunities available in Omaha and the surrounding area. Elkhorn real estate prices are well above the average for the Omaha area, due in part to the extensive horse farms and private estates that adorn the surrounding countryside.

Elkhorn, Nebraska offers upscale living within a short commute of the Omaha metropolitan area. Originally founded in 1865, Elkhorn retains its proud history as a small farming and railroad community. The downtown area features many historic buildings, and the annual Elkhorn Days Festival brings the whole community together each summer for food, fireworks and fun. Elkhorn’s small town charm and rural atmosphere provides a welcome escape for families seeking a refuge from big-city living. Elkhorn provides all the amenities of a larger community, including outstanding schools and public services, while retaining its own unique rustic sensibility.
Elkhorn was annexed by Omaha in 2007 despite various measures taken by the town government to prevent this from happening. The annexation has had little effect on the town and its growth thus far; Elkhorn remains one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the Omaha area. Local housing prices reflect the town’s unique appeal, with some sizable country estates and horse farms selling for more than $5 million. The median home price in the Elkhorn area is $184,000. Elkhorn properties have held their value exceptionally well during recent economic downturns; this stability is attributed in part to the higher-than-average income levels of its residents and the low cost of living present throughout the state of Nebraska.
