More about Plattsmouth

Plattsmouth, Nebraska Welcome Sign

Plattsmouth is one of the oldest communities in the region and the county seat of Cass County. Founded in 1854, it was built on the banks of the Missouri River and benefited from the trade and transportation that the river provided. Steamboats and ferry boats often docked at Plattsmouth, and it grew steadily as a result of river traffic. By the time the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad reached Plattsmouth in 1869, the community was already well established as a center for trade. Forty-five buildings in the Main Street Historic District are currently listed with the National Registry of Historic Places; numerous older homes in the area feature impressive architecture and stately charm.

Shopping opportunities are available in nearby Papillion, Omaha, or Council Bluffs, both within easy driving distance of the Plattsmouth area.

If you are looking for a lakefront property, consider Beaver Lake, just south of Plattsmouth.
