Gretna Homes for Sale

Incorporated in 1889, Gretna was designed to take advantage of the Burlington Railroad’s rail line between Ashland and Omaha. It flourished and soon became a bustling center of trade in the area. Today, many residents commute to Omaha or Lincoln, both nearby centers of employment and industry, but return home to Gretna to enjoy the benefits of its tightly-knit community, excellent educational system, and quiet country charm.

More about Gretna

Beginning in 1888 with one small rural school serving village children, Gretna has demonstrated its commitment to quality education. Gretna’s outstanding school district consistently receives high marks from the Nebraska Department of Education, earning Exemplary ratings in both Reading and Mathematics in all assessed grade levels for the 2008/2009 school year. Outstanding academic achievement is only one part of the Gretna success story, however. Students enjoy a wide range of extracurricular activities including an outstanding athletics program and a number of student organizations devoted to music, art, theater, and dance. Additionally, the Gretna Public Schools Foundation was established in October 1990 to provide scholarships and grants to deserving students and teachers; the foundation also helps to fund the Gretna Early Education Center.

Gretna offers a surprisingly large array of services to its residents, including a number of fast-food and dine-in restaurants, banking facilities, physicians, and animal hospitals conveniently located within the city. Gretna's local businesses provide the amenities of a much larger city while retaining its small-town charm, offering its residents the best of both worlds.
