First established in March 1947 by the merger of Districts 31, 46, and 65, Westside Community School District 66 is dedicated to serving the educational needs of students in the Omaha area. All schools in District 66 are fully accredited by the North Central Association, and provide an outstanding learning environment for students. Westside is widely regarded as a pacesetter in the field of foreign language studies, with elementary students participating in second language instruction as part of their basic studies. District 66 has an outstanding staff development plan. From their first day of employment until retirement, teachers are encouraged to develop their teaching skills and to further their educational qualifications; the district pays for all graduate tuition for their teachers and requires educators to obtain a master’s degree within ten years of their hire date to continue teaching within the district. Westside offers a wide range of extracurricular activities for students, including fifteen sports and over fifty clubs focusing on specific interests like philosophy, debate, and science and engineering.
