Celebrity Homes is Shutting Down

After nearly 50 years of building homes across the Omaha metro, Celebrity Homes is closing its doors. On March 6, 2026, D.R. Horton, the largest homebuilder in the United States by volume, announced it is acquiring Celebrity Homes, bringing an end to one of Omaha’s most recognizable names in new construction.

If you’re a current Celebrity homeowner, someone with an active contract, or someone who was considering a Celebrity home, you probably have a lot of questions. Here’s what we know so far.

A Little Background: Who Was Celebrity Homes?

Celebrity Homes has been a cornerstone of the Omaha homebuilding scene since 1977. For nearly five decades, the company marketed itself as “Nebraska’s Home Builder” and built a reputation on its “Yes! It’s All Included” model — offering features like sprinkler systems, raised ceilings, and installed appliances at no extra charge.

At its peak, Celebrity Homes was the largest homebuilder in the Omaha area by volume, constructing 551 homes in 2023 alone. The company offered a wide range of floor plans and was the go-to option for entry-level and move-up buyers throughout West Omaha, Gretna, Bennington, and surrounding suburbs.

What Exactly Is Happening?

D.R. Horton has announced its acquisition of Celebrity Homes. According to D.R. Horton, the acquisition includes only finished lots. Celebrity Homes will finish the homes it has already started and honor existing contracts.

If You Have a Contract with Celebrity Homes

Good news: your contract should be honored. Nothing should change. You will still be working with Celebrity Homes until the home is complete.
It’s best to contact your real estate agent or Celebrity Homes sales representative to confirm this.

If You Already Own a Celebrity Home

For existing Celebrity homeowners, you are probably wondering, “what happens to my warranty?"

According to D.R. Horton’s announcement, warranties currently held under Celebrity Homes will remain in place as part of the acquisition. Celebrity Homes used a third-party 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty program, which covers structural defects and major systems. Because these warranties are issued through an independent third-party provider rather than Celebrity Homes itself, they are not dependent on the builder.

Beyond warranties, day-to-day homeownership in your neighborhood should be largely unaffected. HOA structures, community amenities, and completed infrastructure will remain as-is.

What Does This Mean for the Omaha Housing Market?

The short answer and long answer is… we don’t really know.

Some people think it will accelerate the building of homes and neighborhoods in the area.

That may be the case, but it doesn’t mean the home’s quality is the same. It doesn’t mean the floor plans are the same. It is a publicly traded company - its responsibility is to shareholders. They could pull out of the market at any time.

Consolidation usually leads to higher prices because there is less competition. Anyone who says this is great news but doesn’t discuss the downsides is a cheerleader, not a realist.
