Mount View Elementary became part of the Omaha Public Schools in July of 1960. The new building opened in the 2007-2008 school year.
A great mystery surrounds how Mount View was named. Some people said it was always called Mount View. Some said it was renamed when the new building was built in 1937.
Currently, Mount View Elementary hosts approximately 370 students in grades pre-kindergarten through fifth. They also have Early Childhood Special Education and Head Start. Attached to their building is the Boys and Girls Club that many of the students choose to attend after school and during the summer.
